The Andhra Pradesh Government is developing a comprehensive cultural complex featuring the statue, museum, theatre, and tourism center, inviting global Telugu participation through transparent donations with recognition certificates and name plaques for contributors. Following year-long statewide celebrations, Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate this beacon of unity and remembrance on March 16th, 2026, in a historic ceremony expected to draw thousands.
Born on March 16, 1901, Potti Sreeramulu garu was a devoted Indian freedom fighter, widely honored as “Amarajeevi” for his unwavering commitment to the Andhra cause. He gained national recognition through a 58-day hunger strike, demanding the creation of a separate state for Telugu-speaking people. His passing on December 15, 1952, sparked widespread public protests and grief, prompting Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to announce the formation of Andhra State just four days later, on December 19, 1952. Sreeramulu’s selfless sacrifice played a pivotal role in the birth of a Telugu-speaking state, marking a historic milestone in India’s linguistic and cultural identity.

Chandrababu Naidu garu formally launched the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Amarajeevi Potti Sreeramulu in Amaravati, offering heartfelt floral tributes and addressing the public on March 16th, 2025. He announced the installation of a 58-ft tall statue of Sreeramulu in Amaravati, a powerful tribute to his 58-day hunger strike that led to the formation of Andhra State.
The Chief Minister also declared that Sreeramulu’s native house in Padamatipalli will be converted into a museum, and a modern health center and high school will be constructed in his honor. Emphasizing Telugu identity and unity, he stated that one major programme will be held every month for a year, culminating in the inauguration of the statue in March 16th, 2026. This initiative stands as a collective tribute from the Telugu people – a symbol of respect, pride, and remembrance for generations to come.
